Why did I do it? Because it was there. I was hungry and unhappy. One little bite never hurt anyone. I’ll get back on it tomorrow. No one is going to tell me what to do. She has a lot of room to talk. It’s easier for her; her life isn’t as hard as mine. All I have is my food. God doesn’t listen. He’s there for all but me. Sure I could work the OA program, but they expect more than I can give. It is too hard, and I am too tired. Sure the weight could kill me, but I have to die of something; it may as well be that.

Sound familiar? That is the sound of my disease talking. These are things I have said to myself and anyone else who would listen.

Today I heard the sound of recovery talking in the voices of my OA friends on the telephone. I had a restless night thinking about what a worthless, hopeless person I was. I was ready to give up on my life and my OA program when the phone calls started coming from my OA family. You are more than friends; you have seen the real me and still you love me. Each time I talked to someone I felt so much love and caring that I could not give up on myself. You touch my life and I realize now that I touch your life. I’m a worthwhile person. Thank you for making that call.

I am abstinent as I write this. I feel loved, hopeful and God-centered. My Higher Power put you in my life. Please never think you don’t count. Each time you share honestly, each time you make a phone call and each time you do service in OA, you touch lives. I love every one of you.
